Meditations and Mantras
What’s in your heart shows up in your body. What’s in your mind shows on your face. That’s not a question but a truth. Stress shows up as physical sensations in our body or worse.
Meditation is a way to release what we hold in our bodies, heart and thoughts. Taking that still seat and training our breath and our thoughts brings us into a place of healing. We’ve all had things go south in our lives. Let’s face it, life is hard, challenging and sometimes pretty ugly. So how do we cope? How do get through those times without getting sick, bitter and angry.
We all have our ways. Yoga, mantras and meditation just happens to be mine. I’ve tried so many ways and found this one to be the most affective and the most loving way to heal. This is for EVERYONE! Let me say it again……EVERYONE! Meditation will get you in touch with who you really are.
Truthfully I just started all of this about 2 years ago and once I stared I thought “why didn’t I do this from the start” “why did it take so long to take a quiet seat”?????
A physical injury brought me to my meditation practice and a life threatening potential diagnosis. Yep apparently I learn the hard way. But through that very hard time I found my mediation, my many mantras, my healing and yes my strength!
A little story………You might have caught an image of me on-line that may look a little grumpy. Some of you might have heard of the term “resting bitch face” That’s when a person’s natural facial expression looks grumpy. Yep that’s me! When I’m not smiling and when I’m concentrating I look well kind of mean. (I know at this point you are wondering where I’m going with this, stay with me it gets good)
So needless to say when I’m being photographed or filmed for yoga I’m always a bit concerned about what the images will look like. I love yoga and it makes me so happy but you couldn’t always tell that from the expression on my face.
Recently I was asked to create a Sankalpa, it’s a personal mantra just for me to repeat over and over in my mind. I loved that! I’d been using mantras for a while now and was excited to have a personal empowering one just for me.
OH! Mantra, let me explain…..A mantra is something you repeat over and over during meditation or if you’re like me while driving the car or at any time I feel overwhelmed in my thoughts. They can be very powerful. Common mantras are “I AM” or “I honor the divine light within” etc.
Ok, back to my story….I was doing a photo shoot for my website it was really fun. We were outside at a beautiful park by the river. My very talented photographer captured beautiful images. But the first thing I thought once I was home was “I hope I didn’t look grumpy in every shot”? I was sent a few pictures from the shoot and one of them was a picture of meditating. When I saw it I couldn’t believe it, I didn’t look grumpy at all, I looked peaceful and calm. How was that possible? Then I remembered I was repeating my Sankalpa the entire time to keep me calm during the shoot.
“I am love, I am light, I am confident, committed, wise and bright!”
What’s in your heart and what’s in your mind shows up on your face! Namaste’
